Visa for Residence Purposes of Work and Vocational Training

What do you need for a legal stay?

If you want to stay legally in Germany, you usually have to enter with a visa and need a corresponding residence permit for your further stay.

Nationals of many countries are subject to visa requirements when entering Germany, including Armenian, Kosovar, Russian and Turkish citizens.

Others, on the other hand, e.B Albanian, Bosnian, Georgian or Ukrainian nationals, may enter the Federal Republic of Germany for up to 90 days without a visa for a visit or tourist stay. During this period, they are not allowed to take up gainful employment. For a longer-term stay, they therefore also need a corresponding visa.

Who is allowed to enter for professional reasons?

If you want to stay in Germany for professional reasons, you need a national visa for a long-term stay and can then apply for a residence permit for the purpose of training or for the purpose of gainful employment. To do this, however, you must have certain qualifications, which will be explained on the following pages:

Residence Permit for Vocational Training
Residence Permit for Studying
Residence Permit for Work in a Training Profession
Residence Permit for Work as an Academic

Since March 2020, there has been an accelerated skilled worker procedure, which employers can apply for for a fee at the Foreigners' Registration Office. In this procedure, the visa procedure, the recognition of the qualification and the approval of the Federal Employment Agency should take place within short deadlines.

There are even more possibilities to move to Germany as a (prospective) specialist than is described on the following pages. For example, if you are interested in a visa to look for a job, you can find more information on www.make-it-in-germany.de. Clear graphics, which requirements you have to meet for this and on which legal basis your residence permit can be issued, can also be found there.
