In every region in Germany there are counseling services specifically for migrants. This migration advice is offered by various organizations:
- Workers' Welfare (AWO)
- German Caritas Association
- Diaconal work of the Evangelical Churches in Germany (Diakonie)
- German Parity Welfare Association
- German Red Cross
- Central Welfare Office for Jews in Germany
- Union of the Displaced
There are social workers and social pedagogues who can help you with many everyday questions, e.g. language courses, housing, work, health, childcare and school, and with simple legal questions. You will work closely with the project staff in the various countries to provide you with the best possible support and guidance throughout your immigration process.
The migration advice centers are financed from federal funds, but their work is independent of government agencies. The consultation is confidential and free of charge.
Migration advice will help you with these topics:
Learning German
e.g.: Where can I learn German? Do I have to pay for the language course myself?
Migration advice will help you to find the right language course for you. Attending the language course is often free of charge, e.g. you can be exempted from the costs for the integration language course.
school and job
e.g.: Will my school-leaving certificate or my training be recognised? How and where can I find work?
Help in dealing with authorities / legal questions about your stay
e.g.: Which authorities do I have to contact? What requests can I submit?
Migration advice will help you to submit applications and write letters (e.g. for child benefit, housing benefit, application for a residence permit, etc.)
marriage, family, upbringing
e.g.: help with personal problems, financial help during pregnancy
health
e.g. How do I get health insurance?
Reside
e.g.: Where can I find an apartment?
special offers
e.g. B. women's meeting, women's breakfast, language course for women
Migration advice will help you to get to know other women who speak your language and have lived in Germany for a long time. These women can be of great help to you to settle in and find your way around in Germany. You can meet other women who are in similar situations to yours.
How do I find the right counseling center?
Migration advice is divided into youth migration services (JMD) and migration advice for adult immigrants (MBE). The youth migration services primarily support young people between the ages of 12 and 27 in their school, professional and social integration process, but also parents who have questions about the education/training of their children. The MBE is responsible for everyone over the age of 28, especially in the first three years of their stay in Germany.
In total there are around 1,300 migration advice centers and over 470 youth migration services. In the vast majority of cities and districts there is such a counseling center.
Migration advice for adult immigrants at your (future) place of residence can be found here:
